Lessons
A Typical Lesson
A lesson always starts with some warm up exercises and stretches. Around 10 minutes are spent preparing the body for the more rigorous work to follow.
There will then be some "basics" practice. The lower grades will practice a single block or punch at a time, aiming to perfect the speed, accuracy and power with which it is delivered. For the higher grades this may be a combination of half a dozen or more techniques.
Kata Training. A Kata is a long sequence of techniques designed to practice different blocks and strikes as well as stances and breathing.
Kumite (Sparring). Kumite comes in two forms. The first is a series of pre-determined strikes and blocks. The second is free sparring, where your skills and speed are really tested. Sparring with Tigers is always non-contact.
A lesson normally finishes with some physical exercise and warm down exercises.

Advanced Training
On the second Sunday of each month, Sensei Ron teaches an advanced class. The focus here is on sparring skills and techniques outside of the syllabus. Check the calendar for the next session.
Weapons Training
On the third Sunday of each month, Sensei Kim teaches a weapons class. Learn how to use Nunchuka or a Bo properly. This enhances hand-eye coordination and speed - and looks very good at demonstrations! Check the calendar for the next session.
